Motor Insurance. What to do during an accident?

If you ever get involved in a car accident, there are certain things you can do to protect yourself and your interests.

The following is a list of things you should do during and after getting into a car accident:-

1. Make sure you are safe
Make sure you are safe from the traffic and moving vehicle around you. Stay at the side on the road as possible and move your vehicle to as safer place of the main road if possible.

2. Stay calm and don’t panic
Always be calm and aviod any possible argument with the parties involve. Always opt to settle the problem amicably with the third party.

3.Contact your insurer Auto Assist Hotline
Immediately call the hotline for assistance to tow your vehicle to the nearest panel repairer.

4.Take picture and exchange information
You should take pictures of the vehicles if there is visible damage. If you have visible injuries, you should photograph them as well – these pictures will come in handy.

5.Make a police report
You must lodge a police report at the nearest police traffic station within 24 hours. Any report make after 24 hours of the accident will be fine by the police. You will need to bring along your identification card and driving license to the police stattion for report.

6. Notify your insurer
You must notify your insurer or servicing agent immediately upon making the police report even if you do not intend to make a claim to protect yourselves for any liability that may arise out of the accident.

7. Send your car the insurer authorize panel repairer
If you would like to pursue a claim for your vechicle damage after the accident, please send your vehicle to any authorise panel repairer of your insurer and they shall render assistance on claim submission for you.
